Extending Invitations: V-ませんか？

Won't you join me (doing)....

This is an invitation to do something with somebody. For example,

 

"Would you like to go jogging together?"

いっしょに　ジョギングを　しませんか。

 

Some others:

いっしょに　えいがを　み　に　いきませんか。

Or, if you cannot/do not want to...

すみません、ちょっと　ようじが　あって**

This = て form of the verb あります so we are saying "I have a ようじ" =

I have something that I have to do

 

すみません、ちょっと　つごうが　わるくて**

**from わるい = Bad

すみません、ちょっと　つごうが　よくなくて(not good!)

つごう = is a Noun meaning Convenience

つごうが　いい = would mean that it IS convenient　

つごうが　よくない = neg. of よい = not good

 

つごうが　わるい = here, the つごう is bad, わるい, or it could also be not good (neg of いい)! It is NOT convenient.

Here, we are seeing いい and わるい in their て form:

つごうが　わるくて = It's not convenient

つごうが　よくな くて = it is not convenient

i.e., よく　ない---> in the て form-->よくな くて
